assignment write-up: first edit [video only]
deciding that the voice acting of myself and (especially) that of my actress was significantly less than i'd hoped for, my project will take on a major shift in direction. the dialog and sound effects will be distorted and the footage will directly relate to this transformed audio track. therefore, the draft at this point does not represent the final aesthetic, as it is impossible for me to arrange the video without also working with the sound.

I likes the framing and lighting.
There was a shift from what I assume was 2 takes but I'm guessing that you can match it later.
The shadow was good as was the small activities like eating the apple and drinking the water.
However I can not judge the success of the plot or story as the project is totaly dialog driven.
And the editing worked as there was none and none was needed.
However I think it is unfair that you did not include the dialoge you had in whatever form.
We all have to mess with fine tuning however your film is so linked to the dialog that even a rough viewing is hard to evaluate without it. -- jonathan postal
I can see that the lady in the left frame is having a heated conversation on the phone. I wish I could hear the dialouge, but, I too, have yet to add my audio. I know the story of this piece so it is easier for me to guess what is going on. I like how the actor in the right frame is completely unaffected by the berating from the woman on the right.
The domesticated scenery and eating at the table is appropriate as well. There is the reference to the apple and religion and the woman there that you may want to think about, maybe.
Overall, I think the piece is working well.
I was a bit confused in the beginning about the fact that you are filming a rehearsal. I do like the split screen effect. I can't figure out if it goes on for too long or not. The only reason I say that is because I like the ending so much. The stare into the camera is intense. It made the entire movie work as a message to how ridiculous some things can become in life. I would like to see this film approached in a more standard way. To have the split screen on the two different phone conversations would be really cool.
hey owen.
editing: the editing looks great. im jealous that you could figure out the split-screening. i am excited t see it with the dialog included
plot/story: the shadow of a woman flailing her arms and clearly having an argument. other actor content. unphased. clearly there are differences in opinion here.
mise-en-scene: the lighting and composition looks great! setting and all seems very fitting.
I think Gabby will come through well, if she takes a breathe and gets into character you two could have a great arguement scene. But i think since youre going to have you eating and not actually talkin, you need to reduce the cuts on the right side of the screen since there doesnt seem to be any on the left side...
Cant wait to see what you get, gonna be good
I like the idea of videoing in 1 centralized location. The lighting is elegant & the fact that the mother's shadow is the only thing present is nice. I cant wait to see the ending result!
