Self-inventory: Recreate an incident from your life and provide a narrative, then transform it.
idea 1 - bee paranoia
- stung by yellow jacket 8-10 times up my back at a young age
- later believed there was a bee at the foot of my bed which would not leave; couldn't tell if it was real or a dream
- still occasionally have short nightmares of bees being under my sheets, and i'll wake up with a quick jolt
idea 2 - mom and religion
- document conversation had with my mother concerning religion and her overreactions to my being agnostic
idea 3 - grass fire
- section of our yard caught on fire a long time ago around christmas because we lined the driveway with sand-filled candle bags
-black patch remained for a long time
idea 4 - tooth fairy
- older brother and i caught the tooth fairy/our mom once by setting a trap
idea 5 - accused of being racist
- involved summer school and a bottle of liquid paper
idea 6 - jolly rancher sickness
- threw up once on a camping trip from eating a whole package of watermelon flavored jolly ranchers followed by ramen noodles for dinner
idea 7 - caught "stealing"
- as a child i found a piece of candy on a department store floor and pocketed it
- the store alarm went off as my mother and i were leaving
- i stopped and looked guilty; when questioned, i confessed to stealing an m&m off the floor. later i realized that a real thief must have gotten away that day

you need to combine all 7 of these ideas into one short film -- maybe 15 min in length -- do a trial on your fav for now --combine ideas for a final piece? i'm very drawn to the story of the grass fire -- all in all very domestic/family -- can you fit the hotdogs anywhere -- your family runs a hotdog rest correct? there's gotta be some material there-- i recommend watching the solondz film palindromes soon -- creepy uncomfortable disjointed -- actually, watch all of his films esp pallindromes and happiness -- great combination of dysfunction and absurdity --
The themes seem to pull together.
The question is how to get them on film.
The fire is definatly cool if you could do it.
Maybe while watching the fire burn you could remember in the smoke the conversations about religion and the catching of the tooth fairy.
Maybe if there is no tooth fairy why should God get a better shake than the tooth fairy.
Both entities have people acting in their names.
You can get really great smoke bombs at the fire works stors on the way to Nashville.
Just remember 2 people sitting a room talkinabout God could be just as dull as 2 people sitting in a room talking about God - so be doing something while you are dealing with it.
Good ideas though.
Yeah a combination....sort of the rebellious art kid-esq... concerning the religion...racism and it all started with that first M&M... You ironic deliverance could add a little bit of humor to it... More to come...rushing of to class nigga!
it is funny that happiness and pallindrones was mentioned. I was thinking of a Michael Kang film called The Motel. confused youth with too many responsibilites. check it out. but to sum up and go with the crowd a combination seems to be key. even if it is a compliation of individual clips.
i think it would be great to see what a mon thinks about her son.
and im going to support the suggestions to combine all events somehow
I love the whole idea of the jolly ranchers story..maybe combining it with the religion aspect. I dunno...maybe a religious camp that feed you noodles & jolly ranchers...but you are vomiting due to such strong religous beliefs & convictions that your mom has instilled in you..maybe you have had enough. oh yeah and the tooth fairy was in charge of the food at camp....lol!
I especially like the bee paranoia and the conversations with mom. Maybe magnify them until absurd i.e. giant bee killer on the loose stalking you your every waking moment,or...conversation with mom turn into battle over heaven or hell.
Or totally different.. streamline the conversation so that the main point is carried across but minimal action occurs. more suggestive than actual.
